About

Black Genes Matter™ is more than just a catchy slogan—it's a growing movement within the Black community. By focusing on our shared genetics and family health histories, Black Genes Matter™ aims to empower people of color to take control of their health outcomes. Our organization is dedicated to providing education and resources to help individuals understand their genetic makeup and make informed decisions about their health.

For too long, the unique health needs and genetic risks facing Black populations have been ignored or marginalized in mainstream medicine. But we have the power to change that by advocating for more research, better screening, and culturally-informed care. When we know our risks, we can reduce and prevent health disparities. Knowledge about our genes allows us to make more informed choices about lifestyle, early detection, and treatment options.

Only 37% of Black women are referred for genetic counseling or testing compared to 85.7% of white women
